Visa Olympic Games Tokyo 2020

A global visual identity inspired by Hokusai

For Visa’s sponsorship of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, we were inspired by the work of one of Japan’s best-known artists, Hokusai — in particular his iconic print, The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Working with Visa brand assets, we developed a collection of wave-inspired graphics and used these on their own and as a backdrop to photography, creating a powerful connection between graphics and imagery. The wave retains the principles of dynamic motion and positivity, with an enhanced feeling of harmony and connectivity, in line with the theme of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. We developed a comprehensive visual identity system including assets and guidelines for global activation.
