Revitalising a 100-year-old brand

Founded by veterans of the Great War, the North Leeds crown green bowling club celebrated its centenary in 2019. With a commitment to secure the club’s future, in 2025, the committee elected to modernise the brand to increase awareness in the local community and, importantly, grow the membership.

Attracting a more diverse (and younger) audience was important, as was elevating the sense of pride already felt, while not alienating existing members.

The new identity is simple, modern and distinctive. The vibrant colour palette and introduction of the modular brand motif — the horizontal and stacked ‘NLBC’ — provide flexibility and impact. The new identity was rolled out with a launch campaign featuring phrases common within the game. The bold typographic design enabled the new identity to shine, introducing the local community to Crown Green Bowls with a touch of humour. Since the launch in Spring 2025, membership has increased by over 100%.
